This fall I got the chance to see Zach Hill (drummer for Hella) play at the High Noon. He set up his drum kit and played through 'Necromancer', the anchor of his latest solo release, Astrological Straits. It was an incredible display of power, dexterity, and, most impressively, stamina. For those who haven't heard Hella, here is a must:

'Biblical Violence' live.

The most impressive aspect of Hella is that it sounds cohesive and they make real songs. Zach Hill and Spencer Seim are also incredibly prolific-when I went to see Zach play the merch table was stocked with 20+ different cds of Hella and numerous side projects.

A free download from every Hella album is available at their website.
